A Heart from the Eiffel Tower

I did an exchange trip to France in June 2007, and once of the many places I was able to visit in France was the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower was one of the many highlights of my stay in France, and I plan on sharing some photos of the Eiffel Tower as well as some other things I saw in France in the coming weeks, but this photo is one of my favorite ones out of all of my Eiffel Tower-related photos.
This photo was taken from the view of the first floor of the tower. As I was admiring the Parisian skyline and the fantastic view the Eiffel Tower offered, I noticed that there was a large heart carved into the grass at the Champ de Mars. The heart is a little asymmetrical, a little crooked, and if you look at the photo in its full resolution you can see that there are birds sitting on the left half of the heart, but I think the heart is adorable. Sadly, I never found out why the heart was there, or even if it has always been there and I had simply never known about it before. With Paris being known as the “city of love,” to me, this heart is the perfect symbol of the romance that often idealizes Paris.
Perhaps someone is so in love with soccer he felt the need to burn a heart into the playing field?
That heart is definitely adorable! I wonder, whether a guy made it for a girl, or was it only made to attract attention from the Tower? Like, a tourist attraction? I’d rather believe the first option, since it’s more romantic!
I could do an exchange trip this summer to Germany, but not with my class, but another one. I get along well with them, but it would be so wierd! Not like I speak German fluently, but I could consider this as a practice. :) I can’t decide, though. That would mess my language-study and working plans.
I strongly recommend going on any sort of exchange trip possible – embrace any opportunity you get for traveling! Experiences like that are once in a lifetime, and they’re gone in the blink of an eye. Surely your language-study and working plans could be postponed for a summer? Because rarely do the same opportunities for an exchange trip arise year after year.
That’s really cute! To bad you don’t know why it’s there. But I’m with Rosier, I hope it was a romantic gesture from one person to another :) It would be such a sweet story.
I want to go to France too someday, it seems like a really nice country. I bet Paris was beautiful :)
Aww, that heart is adorable! Now I’m wondering how it got there, too. It’s not visible in the Wikipedia image :P
