And the Oscar Goes To…
February 22nd, 2009 | Categories: Entertainment, Question of the Week | 9 CommentsTonight is the night of the 81st annual Academy Awards. Every year, there are always lots of buzz and hype surrounding the biggest awards show of the year, and this year is no exception. From a phony list of winners being released to endless speculation over what surprises will be present at the Oscars, this year’s Oscars will hopefully as exciting and eventful as it is promised to be.
Hugh Jackman is hosting the Oscars this year, and I am very, very excited about this. He’s possibly my most favorite actor, and he never disappoints. Hugh has promised that he won’t hold back in regards to going off the script and playing pranks on the guests at the star-studded event. And rumor has it that the opening number at the Oscars will be a song and dance event involving Jackman as well as some other surprise participants, all coordinated by Baz Luhrman. That number is sure not to disappoint – I mean, it’s Baz and Hugh! Think Moulin Rouge, think The Boy from Oz! ;)
Even though I haven’t seen all of the movies that were nominated for an Oscar, I do have some Oscar hopes for some of the films that I have seen, mainly for Heath Ledger in Best Supporting Actor as The Joker in The Dark Knight, Wall-E as Best Animated Feature, and every category that Slumdog Millionaire was nominated in. If The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Revolutionary Road (Kate Winslet in particular) win awards I would be happy with that too, but I’ve heard that some of the other nominated films are more awards-worthy than those two films.
I’m also excited for the red carpet event too; some of the gowns the actresses wear to the Oscars are phenomenal in both the positive and negative way. Michelle Williams looked stunning at the 2006 Oscars, yet Tilda Swinton’s gown at the 2008 Oscars was definitely one that should not have been worn at the Oscars, or anywhere else for that matter. Most of the actors usually look the same in their suits and tuxedos, so all the spotlight is on the ladies and their choice of haute couture for the night.
Question of the Week: What’s your favorite part of the Oscars? Is it the red carpet, the opening sequence, the awards ceremony, or something else?

I’m not extremely excited about the Oscars this year. Of all the movies nominated for Best Picture I only saw Milk and Benjamin Button, and I would pick the latter, although I have a feeling about Slumdog Millionare, I don’t know.
My favorite part of the Oscars is normally the opening sequence, of course it depends on who’s hosting. But I’m not going to lie, my favorite part is the day after, when I can see the pictures of the red carpet and critisize the gowns and hair dos :P
And fate wanted that I was typing my latest blog post talking about a movie and the Oscars, so you’ll be reading more of my opinions there :D

I’ll be honest with you, I don’t really care about any of it lol. The whole thing just makes me feel a little bit uncomfortable and uninterested. I’m just not an award show person.
I have a feeling those you want to win will though.

I love watching the Oscars, but it seems that every year they slowly get worse and worse (same goes for the Emmy’s and Grammy’s as well). My favorite part is the red carpet, of course, as well as the montages of the ceremonies that appear on Best Week Ever, etc.
I’m also rooting for Heath Ledger. His performance is something to be honored for.
I don’t even watch the Oscars, but I like hearing about the hits and misses for the dresses. It’s interesting to see the winners, too, especially this year since I’ve actually watched a few of the nominees.

I don’t really pay that close of attention to the Oscars (I don’t really get to see any of the films nominated beforehand, so it kind of make it difficult for me to form any sort of educated opinion on anything). But I love waiting the red carpet. :D Pretty dresses! And I’m very interested about this musical number. I’ve heard a few people mention it now and I must admit, I’m very intrigued. :D
I’m not a big watcher of award shows, though I’m thinking I actually will sit down and watch tonight. :D I’m really pulling for Heath Ledger, but beyond that, I’m just curious. :)
Answer: Like, I said, I don’t typically watch, so I think I’ll just kick back and try to enjoy the whole thing. :)
I’m actually determined to watch the Oscars this year! And I’m looking forward to all the red carpet stuff – so many pretty dresses! :D I’m also rooting for Wall-E and Heath Ledger.
Yay for Hugh Jackman as well! Such an awesome actor.
I don’t think I’m that interested in award shows like these… especially since they are broadcast in the middle of the night for me :P Ohh well, better luck next time. I don’t watch that many movies either so that may be another reason… can spend my time only once you know *sighs softly*
