These interviews started with the intention of getting to know my online friends better, and exposing a side of them that might not necessarily be apparent online. Each interviewee was asked ten questions, five of which were generic, and five of which directly applied to the specific individual. If you are interested in being interviewed, please leave a comment on this post.

Interview with Sophie of blog.andcuriouser.org:

  • Do your friends and family know you have a blog? If so, do they read it?
My mum has a vague idea that I do something online. I’ve tried explaining TFL to her a little, that was a mistake XD The blog however, I don’t think I would want her to know about. Definitely the same with friends. It’s actually my big crisis at the moment. Just what can I say in a blog without either being found out, or being boring! XD
  • When did you first start becoming involved in the “internet world”?
Oh god, years ago. I think it must have been a friend mentioning Neopets. Wait, it was earlier than that. Me and my mum collected Beanie Babies together, and I think it may have been their forums XD God, that was years ago. They’re all in the attic now worth practically nothing XD
  • What are your favorite places to visit online?
Why, VegOpt of course! Followed by TFL.
  • Do you ever feel like it’s hard to maintain a balance between online and offline life?
Sometimes definitely. On the one hand, real life should always prioritise. I can’t imagine my boss’ face for being late because I was “finishing an update.” But then at the same time, I’ve made so many friends online, some of whom have leaked into real life anyway. I’m crap at time management anyway, so it was bound to happen.
  • Does your online personality differ from your offline personality? Do you find yourself acting differently in situations online than you would offline?
I’m probably more open in certain places online than I would be offline. Considering online people see me as Lord Henry described as “Extremely witty, a critique of late Victorian culture espousing a view of indulgent hedonism. He corrupts Dorian with his world view.”1 but my best friend sees me as Azumanga Diaoh’s Osaka described as having a vivid imagination, day-dreamer, and let’s face it, a bit of a retard. Make of all that what you will.
  • 2 words: David Tennant. (Elaborate :P)
He’s beautiful. Me and Emma were but 5 feet from him, but didn’t even molest him, such is our inner strength.
  • Oh, another 2 words: Cheshire Cat.
A wind up merchant. He sees his victim, in a rush, no time for nonsense, and strikes. THERE IS ALWAYS TIME FOR NONSENSE! I guess he embodies my approach to life: for God’s sake stop taking everything so bloody seriously!
  • You have quite the talent for corrupting people’s minds with naughty thoughts. How did this particular talent come about?
Oh bloody hell! Who have I corrupted! Show me these people and I shall show you truly enlightened souls who probably had already noticed the phallic imagery, but preferred not to say. I am a trailblazer, a hero and martyr to those who fear to express their inner filthy mind. Ok, probably doesn’t help that in my first seminar at uni we were told “Everything is about sex. No exception.” And you can kinda see their point!
  • You were an English Literature student at university. What are some of your favorite English literary works? Favorite English authors?
Oh god, that’s a question. I have to say, possibly the best book I’ve every read, you know… the kind that hits you and have the words “THIS BOOK IS AMAZING. REPEAT THIS OPINION TO IMPRESS CLEVER PEOPLE” in big neon letters in your mind is Lord of the Flies. Seriously. I enjoy Shakespeare, and I’m ready to embark on a Histories tour (yeah, I’m cool.) I’ve actually forgotten a lot of books we actually covered at Uni XD
  • You are one of the admins at VegOpt. What has your experience there as an admin taught you?
That Manda and Alice are always required to back me up when I fail miserably. That I couldn’t tell you what DNS stands for, or what it is. And that they’re both cleverer than me.

Good stuff! Thanks for posting this Manda, I enjoyed reading more about this crazy lady. ;) By the way, do you think writing a couple lines of introduction, about who she is in general or in relation to you, would be a good idea?

P.S. I am one of the minds she corrupted.

    • Manda says:

I was thinking of doing that, but not everyone that has expressed an interest in being interviewed are people I know personally. I figure that if people are really interested in finding out how I know the interviewee/how they know me, they can go investigate for themselves, as it’s really not hard to figure out. Oh, and she corrupted me too ;)

  2. Krissy says:

ROFL. Oh Sophie. Such a crazy kid.

  3. Alice says:

LOL! That is all I have to say XD
