Cherry Blossoms

It’s cherry blossom season in Washington, DC, which means that it’s time for the National Cherry Blossom Festival. I went last year, and it’s really beautiful. The cherry blossoms were a diplomatic gift from Japan to the US, and every year when it’s blooming season thousands of tourists come to DC to see these blossoms. Local restaurants incorporate cherries into their menus, and there are also events such as a kite festival, a sushi and sake tasting, and even a Japanese street festival. As fun as these events are, my favorite part is still the actual blooming of the cherry blossoms because they are positively beautiful!

Absolutely gorgeous! I’ve always wanted to see the Cherry Blossoms bloom in Japan. Nothing is more quintessentially Japanese in my opinion. You’re lucky to have been in DC for the festival!

That’s such a pretty picture! I like the sound of this kite festival, too. I bet there’d be some pretty awesome kites to see. :D

Ah, I really wanted to go see them this year, but of course the timing doesn’t work for me. I’m sure it’s lovely though :D

They’re so pretty! My city has a similar thing with tulips. :)

[...] I went to the cherry blossom festival last year and had a wonderful time, so I went to this year’s festival this past weekend to enjoy the festivities. It was a beautiful day, with the sun shining brightly and not a single cloud in the blue, blue sky. There were cherry blossoms (and tourists) as far as the eye could see, and my friends and I walked all around the Tidal Basin to photograph the cherry blossom trees as well as visit the FDR and Jefferson memorials. Hard to imagine that the last time I was at the Tidal Basin, I was exhausted and trying to preserve body heat after witnessing Obama’s inauguration when it was so nice and sunny out! [...]
