My Life is Average (MLIA)

May 25th, 2009 by Manda | 7 Comments | Filed in Online

The success and popularity of fmylife.com seems to have sparked a number of “spin-off” sites. The underlying concept is the same: users submit short stories, usually only two or three sentences, summing up an experience that fits with the theme of the site. In addition to fmylife.com, there are a number of other sites, one of which is My Life is Average. Users submit regular, everyday experiences of regular, everyday people, like some of the following submissions:

Today, as I created an account for this site it said “lowercase only” underneath the email section. I typed it in all caps to see if it would still work. It did. MLIA [source]

Today, my teacher saw me texting under the desk and grabbed my phone. She didn’t grab my penis. MLIA. [source]

Today, no one wished me a happy birthday. I wasn’t suprised, today isn’t my birthday. MLIA. [source]

With all of the hype that was surrounding fmylife.com as it caught on in pop culture, it’s nice to know there are still normal people experiencing normal things in day to day life!

My Oldest Online Friend

May 24th, 2009 by Manda | 5 Comments | Filed in Friends, Online, Question of the Week

During my years spent online, I have developed quite a few good online friendships, mainly from communities like The Fanlistings and VegOpt. I love all of my online friends dearly, even those that have “quit” the online business1. Online friendships are a little bit funny, they grow and change just like the way an offline friendship would, but sometimes it seems like there are some online friends whom I am closer to than offline!

My very first online friend, whom I am best friends with today, is the lovely Alice. We got to know each other through chatting on MSN and the TFL boards, and then we got the idea to start an online community together, which led to the creation of VegOpt. Alice is pretty much all-around fantastic, and I love that not only can I remember who my first online friend was, but that I am still excellent friends with her and hope to be for a very, very long time.

Alice also interviewed me recently in the style of my own interviews. She asked some fantastic questions, so please read if you get the chance!

Question of the Week: Who was your first online friend? Do you still keep in touch with that person?

  1. I have lost touch with some of those who have given up all things online, and I hope that they are all doing awesome things that make them happy in their lives! []

Tagline: “I’m the best at what I do… but what I do isn’t very nice.”

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Summary: A prequel to the X-Men trilogy into the life of Wolverine/James Logan (Hugh Jackman) before his life as one of the X-Men.

5 Words/Phrases: Fantastic cast, lots of special effects, loads of action, interesting Wolverine backstory, cool range of mutant powers

Most Impressed By: Hugh Jackman’s fantastic performance as Wolverine; the character of Gambit/Remy LeBeau (Taylor Kitsch) – can there be an X-Men Origins: Gambit, please?!; Liev Schreiber’s performance as Sabertooth/Victor Creed

Least Impressed By: Silverfox/Kayla (Lynn Collins) really, really didn’t do anything for me. Like, at all.

Overall Rating: 8/10
