Association Meme

In May’s Every Hour on the Hour post, one of my photos was of me filling out an association meme on my LiveJournal. The way the association meme works is that I would ask members of my LJ friends list for five terms/phrases they would associate with me, and then I would have to elaborate on those five things. There were forty terms in total for me to elaborate on (some terms were repeated, though), and here are five of the words that my friends associated with me.

  • The MTR

The MTR is Hong Kong’s mass transit railway (hence MTR :P). I think it’s the best in the world. It’s fast, efficient, safe, modern, and doesn’t smell like pee (unlike the El in Chicago, ugh). It’s a great way of traveling in Hong Kong as EVERYWHERE is connected to the MTR. They’re also adding new lines to the MTR, and when I found that out I got so excited I Googled for more info and saw the new maps of where the new lines will go as well as what color they’ll be. I’m an MTR nerd :P
  • The Queen of Hearts

Alice in Wonderland is my favorite animated Disney movie. A while back, we all took a quiz telling us which Alice in Wonderland character we were. Most everyone’s top score was around 75-90%. Mine was 100% the Queen of Hearts :P I love her, I think she’s totally off her rocker and completely nuts but everyone knows of her and her signature line “Off with their heads!” Yes, she’s psychotic and heartless, but I think we are all a little like that from time to time ;)

This answer is connected to my answer for multilingualism. I have traveled for as long as I remember, my first flight was when I was six months old and was to Singapore (from Hong Kong). The world has so much to offer, and I want to see and experience it all. I’ve been to every continent except for South America and Antarctica, and hopefully that’ll change soon (no plans to visit either continent now, but you never know what the future holds in store!) I want to do a study abroad in France for a semester (to compliment my French language studies) and a summer language immersion program in China (for my Mandarin Chinese language studies). I’d also love to live in Tanzania and do volunteer work – I fell in love with Tanzania last time I was there (for volunteer work, incidentally).
  • School/College
    Chosen by: Morgan, Sarah
School pretty much consumes my life (except during the summer, where I oddly find myself wishing I was back at school. Weird…). I went to a private, college prep high school, so my entire life was occupied by school, whether it be homework or extracurriculars – I spent more time at school than anywhere else (including before and after school and weekends!) At college, school doesn’t occupy my life as much with the exception of exams, but since I live on-campus, it’s pretty much my life, haha.
  • Barack Obama
    Chosen by: Rebekah
I don’t remember Clinton getting elected, I remember Bush getting elected (omg, it was bloody awful), and I was living overseas when Bush was re-elected. In many ways, Obama’s campaign and election was the first one that I not only could remember, but also understand and be a part of (yay for turning 18 in time for voting!) Living in Chicago (aka Obama-land), there was this huge buzz surrounding the campaign and election. One of my friends took a gap year to volunteer for Obama in Ohio, and countless of them campaigned for him last summer. When I went to college, the intensity of politics in my life only got stronger since I was going to school in DC at the nation’s most politically active college campus. The first time I ever voted was for Obama, I staffed the polls on election day, and I attended his inauguration. I’m still not as into politics as I should be (I think every citizen should be at least aware of the political goings-on in their country) but Obama definitely sparked a lot of my current interest in politics.

The MTR was featured on Top Gear a few years back and I was so impressed! Efficiency is beautiful! It is definitely the best in the world! If it is late you get your money back (i’ve heard), and its never late!
