After some “sneak peaks” here, here, and here, I am proud to announce that my Celestial Gathering by cross stitch project is finally complete.

The sun, moon, planet, stars, and borders were all done in a cross stitch, while the constellations, galaxy, and other background detailing were done in a half cross stitch. Outlining was done in a backstitch, and the little dotted stars were done with French knots.
Not to toot my own horn or anything, but damn, this looks amazing.

From one cross stitcher to another, wonderful job. I love it. You did a wonderful job on it. What are you going to do with it now. Please tell me that you are going to frame & hang that beautiful piece. Don’t just put it away. I love it.
Manda
I have yet to go frame shopping, but yes, the plan is to frame and hang the piece!

Wow. WOW.
It looks awesome. You definitely deserve a “patience award” for this one.

Wow, that does look amazing. How many hours do you think it took you total?
Manda
Honestly, I’m not sure, as I went through periods where I worked on it all day for several days, and then some days where I added a little here and there. Maybe a month, if I worked on it for about six hours every day?

That’s crazy gorgeous! You’ve got every right to toot your own horn. Awesome job :D

I wish I was that creative! It’s gorgeous! The moon is my favorite. I love how the crescent moon comes full circle. :)

Hi Manda, The finished piece looks beautiful.
I have the kit myself although i have not started it as i accidentaly bought the chinese version and cannot make out which kind of stitch is which. am i right in thinking there are two types of half stitch for the background? I would really appreciate it if you could help me work out what to do.
I can only hope my attempt will be just as good as yours! Very well done and i hope any future kits come out just as well.
Kind regards
Emma

What part of the background are you referring to? The majority of the piece is done in half stitch, with the exception of the sun, moon, constellations, planets, and stars – those are done in cross stitch. The red and orange border around the piece is done in cross stitch as well.

Do you have the pattern that you followed for this work. I would like to make it as a PHD graduation gift and it is just what I was looking for. Do you know where such patterns for Galaxy, Space, Universe can be gotten if you do not have the pattern?
thank you.
Manda
The design is by the company Dimensions; I purchased the pattern and materials at my local Michaels. I just did a quick Google search and it seems that there are some websites selling the it, too: 123 Stitch and Salt-and-Pepper.
