Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Midnight Premiere

I’d never been to a midnight premiere of a movie before. One of my best friends and I decided that the best movie to pop my midnight premiere cherry was a Harry Potter movie, and so we booked our movie tickets of the midnight premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. And my God, it was fantastic! Both the midnight premiere experience and the movie itself were absolutely brilliant.
I wish I had a better photo than that of a crowded concession stand to capture the experience of my Harry Potter midnight premiere, but none of them turned out well as they were taken inside the dark theater1. There were people dressed up in costumes of varying degrees of creativity and similarity to the movies – there were plenty of cloaks, pointy wizard hats, and wands with tips that lit up, as well as a plethora of Gryffindor scarves! One boy was dressed up as Hagrid and was sitting on top of another boy’s shoulders with a big furry coat draped over the two of them. There was also one kid who was inexplicably dressed as Peter Pan. His costume choice didn’t make any sense that night, and it doesn’t make anymore sense a day later!
My favorite part of the night was when two boys in the row behind me (who were in full costume) decided to challenge each other to a wizard duel. They walked to the front of the auditorium, right in front of the screen, and dueled each other in the style Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy did in the movie Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It was so entertaining, and they sure knew their spells: when one of them shouted “Expelliarmus!” the victim tossed their wand aside, and when the victor shouted “Sectumsempra!” the loser laid down and pretended to bleed out and die. Morbid, yes, but it was still entertaining :P

Aww, sounds fun! They don’t have midnight premieres where I live ;( or at least.. I don’t think they do, haha. I’d probably fall asleep ;)
Ps; I really like your site name; I was actually going to call my site breakthesky.org! crazyyy.
Oh, I wish I could have seen that fight! I went at 1:30 PM, so there were no HP nerds in costume. Next time maybe I’ll go to the midnight premiere… :D
I agree, it was a really good movie. I’m not huge on HP, and I wasn’t even planning on going, but I’m definitely glad I did!
Lol @ peter pan boy. And ooh the boys dueling! That must’ve been entertaining – you should’ve videoed it! :p
I dunno whether to see the film or not. My Harry Potter spark has gone out, and I’m sick of them missing so much out in the films. =P I’ll probably end up going anyway out of boredom.
I used to know all the spells too, back in the day. Good times. xD Sounds like it would be worth it to go to a midnight showing, heh.
I’m really bummed I didn’t get to go to the midnight premier this time. (Well, I could have, but it would have been by myself and I know I would have felt incredibly lame doing that. XD) I went to the OOTP one and it was so much fun! I love HP fans; they’re so awesome coming out in costume. And you got to see a duel! ;D
Oh, I thought the movie was fantastic as well!
Unfortunately, I’ve never been to a midnight showing of HP or any other movie, but I’m hoping to be able to do so for both of the Deathly Hallows movies. I love it when people dress up in costumes and get into the Harry Potter spirit!
I’ve only done a midnight premier once for one of the Star Wars movie. I was dating a guy who was a real nerd and he wanted to see it. It was also my 21st birthday. Needless to say I was a bit upset that he made me go see Star Wars instead of celebrate my birthday. Haha. It was packed, though, and it’s definitely an experience.
The wizard duel sounds awesome!
We went to the midnight premiere as well. It’s been tradition with my husband and I, ever since the second movie came out. I absolutely loved it, and it was great seeing everyone dressed up as various HP characters. I saw one girl with a Potter Puppet Pal, which I thought was way cool. I’m glad you enjoyed your first experience at a midnight premiere. :-)
I’ve gone to every midnight premier of HP since… ehn… the second, I believe. Although I could have done the first? I remember it being hellishly late when I did see it, so. And I love it! To be honest, this is the first of the movies I truly loved, though I feel they’ve been getting progressively better.
I didn’t get to the theatre until 11:30 at night (wooooork), so I missed the delight of standing in line with eighty thousand other dorks, but I loved seeing all the costumes in the concession stand lines. I saw the most GORGEOUS version of Bellatrix… wearing very little. Mmmm crazy!lady cleavage.
(Two my best friends went as House-Elves in pillow cases. XD)
Oh man! I’m soo jealous. I STILL have to watch Harry Potter!! I wanted to go to the midnight showing but I was too tired… lol
I love how those kids actually dueled during the movie. XD I wish I could’ve seen the costumes.
This makes me even MORE excited. *SQUEALSSS*
