Haha, I’ve seen that definitely website before. I noticed a lot of people do spell that word wrong, you’re right.

  2. Melody says:

I am not sure, but it could be a British thing because about 99% of Brits I know spell it that way, including very articulate and wordy people. Some people tend to spell things exactly the way they are spoken.

I suppose the pronunciation of “definitely” is all in the accent because I’ve never pronounced it as though it had an “a” rather than an “i”.

  3. Krissy says:

Man, I need that website in “desperately” :P (The only reason that’s spelled right is because of FF’s spell check! I just can’t spell it!)

  4. Anouska says:

I always have trouble when I want to type definitely, but I think I can forgive myself one word to have trouble with since English is not my first language :P Plus I always make sure I spelled it right before I post anything using that word… XD

  5. Alice says:

I couldn’t spell it until about a year ago when I asked you. Now (most of the time) I get it right :D

  6. Nick says:

Haha, I always had a problem with that word. My girlfriend set me straight pretty quickly though!

  7. Sophie says:

I am both hurt and honoured to get a personal mention XD
I know I pronounce it with an ‘a’ which explains my constant mispelling XD
Also, I reserve the right to mess with language. If Shakespeare could do it, so can I :P

  8. Meaghan says:

My favourite is when people say “defiantly” when they mean “definitely.”

  9. Latrina says:

Haha, great post. I have always had trouble spelling that word. My English-major-husband has forced the correct spelling through my head so many times.. I don’t think I’ll ever misspell it again. — let’s hope not anyways!
