Tagline: It’s just one of those days when you’re feeling a little… dead. Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Summary: As Shaun (Simon Pegg) vows to get his life back on track with his best friend Ed (Nick Frost), girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield), and step-dad Philip (Bill Nighy), he finds himself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and has to save the day, with comical and gory results

5 Words/Phrases: Great comedy; fantastic cast; Pegg and Frost work great together as a comedic duo; very welcome cameo appearance by Jessica Stevenson1; perfect mixture of comedy and gore

Most Impressed By: The strong supporting cast – Pegg may have had the lead role, but the movie was very much about the entire ensemble and they all worked very well together

Least Impressed By: …nothing!

Overall Rating: 9.5/10

  1. Stevenson and Pegg starred together in Spaced, one of my favorite TV shows. []

iPhone Game Apps

October 30th, 2009 by Manda | 2 Comments | Filed in Technology

This blog entry about free iPhone game apps is my follow-up post to iPhone Apps. Since none of the apps I listed in the other post were games, I thought I would do an entry related solely to (free) iPhone games!

  • Solitaire Free
I’ve always been a solitaire fan, and Solitaire Free is a great app for every solitaire geek. Not only does it has the traditional solitaire game with the option of drawing one card or three (Klondike Deal 1 or Klondike Deal 3), but you can also choose from variations of solitaire like Baker’s Game, Baker’s Game Easy, Demon, or Spiderette. My personal favorite is Demon.
  • FarmFrenzy
While the full version of FarmFrenzy is a paid app, the lite version is really good and I’m not even sure I would bother with the paid app since the lite one pretty much has all of the game’s features! It’s the quintessential farming game, where you raise geese and collect the eggs and send the eggs to refineries and cart off your goods to earn money. Along the way, you have to plant grass for geese to feed on, capture attacking bears that will eat your livestock, and raise other animals like sheep, cats, dogs, or even cows!
  • Tetris
I’m pretty sure this one needs no explanation. ;)
  • Lemonade Tycoon
This, as far as I can tell, is exactly like the computer game version of Lemonade Tycoon. You set up a stand, order lemons, water, sugar, cups, and ice, and every day you sell lemonade to try and make a profit. When I first downloaded this app, I couldn’t believe that it was a free full version rather than a lite version because it seems like all games only give you a free lite trial!
  • Falling Gems
Falling Gems is quite similar to Bejeweled. You slide the gems so that you make a combination of 3 or more same-colored gems, but unlike Bejeweled, the combination doesn’t have to be in a straight line. It’s incredibly addictive and you can save all of your scores to create a high score scoreboard.

Dark Brown Suede Flat Boots

Dark Brown Suede Flat Boots

Last weekend, I fulfilled a two-year long dream to find the perfect pair of dark brown suede flat boots at an affordable price.

This dream began in the winter of 2007-2008. I was shopping in the shoes section of Macy’s, and I stumbled across a beautiful pair of dark brown suede flat boots. They were Steve Maddens and the shoe name was Tiana. I fell in love at first sight.

Unfortunately, the shoes were $100USD. There was no way I could justify paying that much for a pair of boots, no matter how much I loved them. So I reluctantly tried to put the thought of them out of my mind and went along my merry way empty-handed without the pair of beautiful boots.

I’ve been searching for that pair of boots, or a similar pair, ever since that winter. I just wanted a pair of dark brown suede flat boots with a slightly slouchy design that went up to just below my knees. I wanted to be able to wear them with straight leg jeans as well as with short skirts, as well as for them to be comfortable and affordable.

This past weekend, I finally found them. They may not be Steve Maddens, but I don’t care what brand it is, or what designer designed the shoe. The boots that I found are everything I wanted, and guess how much they cost?

$25USD.

I think even Amanda would be proud, all things considering1!

  1. I am sure Amanda would have found some way to find an even cheaper pair of boots, but this is a huge success for me, considering I’ve been searching all these years! []
