What Love Is

October 5th, 2009 | Categories: Relationships | 9 Comments

Recently, a group of professionals asked a group of 4-8 year olds what love meant to them. The answers, to the professionals’ surprise, were a lot deeper and more profound than expected. The complete list of answers can be found here, but these are some of my personal favorites:

Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.

You really shouldn’t say “I love you” unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.

Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.

Love is all that’s needed to fix the world. :)

That is incredible sweet, I think I love this one “Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.” more than life. I shall be using this whenever someone asks me what love it, and I will say it came from a child between the ages of 4 and 8.

“Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and
they go out and smell each other.”

    LMAO!

Aww! So adorable! I love how insightful and innocent kids can be. Love the first one about wearing the shirt every day. :)

Aww, the second one is so adorable. <3

"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more.
My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss" <– My favourite :D

“Recently”?? lol. That email has been going around for years! Doesn’t change how much I love it, though. :P

My favourite ones are the two that Alice posted in her comments. Soooo cute!!

It’s little gems like this that really make me feel there is some truth in the age-old adage that children are the future. They know so much that we too often forget. The last one reminds me of a song I like, “Sweetest Love” by Robin Thicke. He makes a similar claim, stating: “Why do people smile when no one’s smiling? / It’s ’cause they’re thinkin’ of some one they’re lovin’…” and so on and so forth. It’s so true, too.
