Boiling Water

Part of my homework for my visual media class this week was to make a Lumiere video, as per the terms in the Lumiere manifesto. My video1 was of a hot water boiler boiling water.

This is the criteria for a Lumiere video:

  • 60 seconds max
  • Fixed camera
  • No audio
  • No zoom
  • No edit
  • No effects

While the Lumiere/realist style isn’t really my thing, I like my video a lot more than I thought I would initially!

  1. Let’s pretend that I have a “video” category rather than a “photos” one for this week! []

I’m afraid the concept is lost on me. :( I’m sure you did the project right and everything, not questioning that at all… I just don’t get it.

A Lumiere film is meant to show a “slice of life” from a different perspective. It’s not meant to have effects or staged events like a Hollywood-esque film. It’s simply meant to show regular, everyday events in a light that you ordinarily wouldn’t see it in. :)
