Tagline: Avatar

Starring: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Joel Moore

Summary: Jake (Sam Worthington), a paraplegic war veteran, is sent to another planet, Pandora, to learn the ways of the indigenous people, the Na’vi. Guided by Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), Jake’s orders from his superiors become at odds with the culture of the Na’vi people and chaos ensues

5 Words/Phrases: Absolutely stunning animation (the world of the Na’vi is beautiful); really good performance from Worthington as Jake; very well-thought out world and culture of the Na’vi; good scope of characters, both human and Na’vi; rather weak plot

Most Impressed By: The world of the Na’vi – it is the greatest strength of the movie, everything is so lifelike and visually pleasing

Least Impressed By: The movie length (2 hours and 40 minutes); the lack of originality about the plot – it wasn’t a direct copy of anything (or was it? :P) but it wasn’t anything that hasn’t already been done before

Comments: Be sure to be in a movie theater with comfortable seats

Overall Rating: 9/10

I pretty much agree with everything you mention, especially with how well-thought the Na’vi culture was. I’m surprised to see your rating, though. A 9/10 for a movie that has a ‘rather weak plot’ seems a little bit too much, but of course, this comes from a person who rarely gives out 10/10 to anything XD

The visual effects outweighed the weakness of the plot, IMO. (It kept me entertained when the plot bored me :P) But I don’t think it deserves a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars because a movie that truly deserves that award needs to be strong in every aspect of a film, which Avatar is not.

The more I think about Avatar, the less I like it XD
In my mind, the impressive visual effects aren’t as lasting as the weakness of the plot.

When I watched it, I was stunned by the visual effects, and I was like Oh.My.God. O_O But now that I do think about it, the plot is just so-so. I’d also give it a 9/10.

I’ve heard so many bad things about the plot I’m not sure I want to see Avatar now. I don’t know if amazing visual effects will sustain my attention alone.

Avatar, It’s kind of impossible thing! How can plant live on that planet without oxigen?

Well, I am very curious but very hesitant! I think if the ‘visual effects’ make some people sick, they might just have been overdone. And God, that movie is too expensive to have a “borrowed” plot. I need to see it before I stop having an open mind about it. :D

I’ve never heard of the visual effects making people sick. Perhaps the people you heard it from just have weak stomachs? :/
