At Least It’s Not iTampon

Of all the names Apple had to choose from for the new tablet that was unveiled today, the company chose “iPad.”

Really, Apple? Really?

I hope Apple realizes that not only is iPad one letter away from iPod (bad idea right there) but that the word “pad” usually has a connotation to feminine hygiene products. There is a reason why “iTampon” has been a trending topic on Twitter ever since news broke concerning the official name of the Apple tablet, you know.

It’s a shame names such as iSlate or iTablet were discarded in favor of iPad. Anything would have been better than iPad… well, except for iTampon.

I have a feeling they picked iPad partially because it’s so similar to iPod. It’s still absolutely hilarious though!

I feel like iPad shouldn’t have been chosen as the name first and foremost because it’s so similar to iPod! I just think that the names are *too* similar and might be hard to differentiate in some cases, like if one speaks really fast or doesn’t enunciate clearly or something. Then there are all of the feminine hygiene jokes that can be made with a name like iPad… ;)

You pretty much said everything I would have said. Bad name is bad and Apple should feel bad.

iSlate would be my choice for a name though.

I think the iPad – pad connotation is the number one reason NOT to choose that name. But I also agree that it’s too similar to iPod… Every time I say it, I think of it as someone saying iPod but with an accent :P

I think iTab is a way better name. iSlate/iTablet are good, too.

I didn’t think of that sort of pad when I heard the name iPad, but I still immediately thought a name like iTablet would be much, much better, on the basis that iPad is way too similar to iPod. iSlate would be a cool name, too.

I like iSlate over iTablet cause “slate” is one syllable and “tablet” is two. iPod, iMac, iPhone… they’re all one syllable, so iSlate would be keeping in consistency with that. Well, so does iPad I guess, but there are a million and one reasons why iPad should NOT have been chosen as the tablet name :P

With all the hype about an Apple tablet during the weeks heading up to the announcment, I’d always imagined it being called an iTablet. But then I guess it’s understandable why they didn’t go with such a literal name — none of their other products follow that trend. I’m with you on iSlate though, or even iCanvas.

Hahaha! Oh man, that name is hideous! I thought it was going to be iSlate, because that would seem to be clearly the most logical (and best) name, but… no. And I don’t usually make comments like this but I’m sure it must have been named by a male… surely any woman would notice the obvious link to sanitary products. :|

It’s a good thing the “iPad” has no appeal to me whatsoever, I guess. I already have a laptop, and I don’t need something that’s basically an inferior version of one!

BRB changing my iPad.

I suppose iPad would sound marginally easier to non-native speakers than iSlate or iTablet. I don’t know, it might even be intentional. Publicity = good publicity no?

(Haha, my “bad joke” tag disappeared. :D)

They should have chosen iTablet, far far better. The iTampon jokes are driving me insane already XD I’m going to be hearing them for months.

Haha, iTampon, I didn’t know it was a trending topic on Twitter. It serves them right, first for their lack of originality and second because iPad is a hideous name. I really like your iSlate idea :)

That’s funny. I agree with the Pod/Pad thing, it’s too similar, can see instances of sales staff coming back to the counter with the wrong product.
