Do You Farmville?
February 11th, 2010 | Categories: Online, Question of the Week | 22 CommentsAlmost everyone who has a Facebook account has heard of the Farmville application. Essentially, it’s a virtual farm where Facebook users can grow crops, tend to animals, and build a farm. You can visit your friends’ farms and watch your own farm slowly change from a pathetic-looking plot of grass to an expansive, thriving farm.
Personally, I don’t play Farmville, but that doesn’t mean I’m not curious about this game that over half of my friends are crazy about. There has been a lot of debate in my group of friends about the merits of Farmville, and I’ve come to the conclusion that there are two types of people in this world: people that Farmville, and people that don’t. There is just no other explanation for this intense, obsessive Facebook app. It’s kind of like the Jetman craze two years ago, which makes me wonder what up and coming app will be the next big thing!
Question of the Week: Do you Farmville?

Nope. I played Farmtown for awhile about a year ago, but got bored… and now I’m pretty much the only person left who doesn’t play Farmville.
I am among those who don’t play it just like you. Everyone in my batch who has a Facebook account play this game every single day! It’s actually amusing to know that even our professors play it! It drives me insane too when my Facebook News Feed is always flooded by updates from these apps. I find the updates unnecessary but maybe that’s just me.
You know you can hide updates from certain apps in your news feed, right? Just click “Hide” in the upper left corner when hovering over the post and you can hide updates from Farmville (or any other app/person) forever!
LOL I think I never really took the time to really learn or figure out Facebook. I don’t login that often. I usually just use it to keep in touch with people I haven’t seen in quite a long time. But thanks, Manda! :)
No worries! You can always show things you have hidden if you change your mind, too. You can set all those preferences in your Applications Settings page.
I LOVE Farmville and admit I’m addicted to it. My husband has jokingly said:
“he has lost me to Farmville” because I am on it everyday. I harvest my crops on time, all the time, as well as my animals and trees. It has become another world for me to escape to when I’m there as I have tailored my “farm” to be a place I would be if I could.
I most certainly do not Farmville :P I haven’t added any game apps to my Facebook! (Or other apps, for that matter, unless Notes/Groups count.)
I don’t Farmville – but I must admit that I would probably have a lot of fun playing it. I like games you have to grow things and take care of things and such … But I’m not really fan of the whole web based gaming or apps on Facebook :( I guess I need to get my hands on a Harvest Moon videogame *lolz*
About the next big app on Facebook. I read somewhere they’re developing Civilization Revolution for Facebook. I never played this game on PC, but I did like to play it a lot on my iPhone. Trying to defend my empire and overthrow the one of my friend or just try to have a friendly foreign relation … a CR Facebook app might get me enthusiastic enough to play games on FB ~
I try to avoid any hypes and I only have the default applications on my Facebook profile. No Farmville for me!
I don’t Farmville. I hate games that update in real time, I want my games to pause when I don’t want to play them.
That’s what makes it cool. I live on FB btwn all my friends, groups, apps and “chatting”, it is my second home.
I don’t play it. Apparently in Hong Kong they have a Chinese version that is called something else (Happy Farm I think). People are so obsessed with it that they play it in work (true story, right in my office!)
Maybe I’m being antisocial/radical here but I really don’t like most Facebook apps outside of the official ones. Every time I get a notification, I block the particular application. Still, a new game/app always ends up sending me another. Once, an old classmate answered a question about me with a survey app and it got published on my profile. The question was “Would you sleep with Melody if you have to?” His answer was yes. WE ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE. I was appalled. So yeah, I hate Facebook apps. :P
I’ve heard of Happy Farm – one of my cousins plays it :P
No, I don’t Farmville. It doesn’t seem very fun, and I hate the spam that inevitably appears in people’s news feeds if even one friend plays it. A while ago several of my Facebook friends became obsessed with playing Farmville, but I blocked it so I didn’t have to see the spam… and now it seems that most of them have become bored with Farmville anyway. Yay!
I have nothing against anyone who plays Facebook games, but I will NEVER get into them. I refuse to and will not get sucked into the Facebook obsession. I only have it so I can get in contact with people who I don’t necessarily talk to every day.
I do not Farmville. The spam that shows up on the News Feed was enough to make me not play it. In fact, I’m fairly sure I blocked the application.
I really only use Facebook to look at other’s people’s stuff (photos, status updates) — I essentially never add applications.
No, I hate it XD all those bloody updates people put on my news feed.
I admit I play… hardcore, along with a lot of my cousins and real life friends. But I finally decided to hide those updates from people who don’t play. :) I have it all filtered, baby!
Farmville is the devil. Have never played it, never will! :)
I was against it for a long time but I got suckered in by my friends. I don’t really enjoy it but I log in every now and then and send my friends gifts and plant crops (the ones that take long to grow so I don’t have to log in often – every couple days) so that my friends don’t bug my about it. It’s easier that way. I am really careful about not spamming people’s pages, too. Very rarely do I ever post anything on my feeds and when I do, it’s up for an hour or two and then once it serves its purpose I delete it.
Oh, and also I will probably stop playing it at some point very soon. It’s just not fun.
Ha ha I use to be but my browsers can’t seem to handle it so I stopped playing and am now playing my zoo :)
