You definitely should see it! It’s hard for me to understand that some people haven’t seen this movie as it was a huge part of my childhood. I definitely recommend, although obviously I’m biased because of my sentimental attachment to the movie.

I used to love The Sound of Music, but I haven’t seen it in years, so I barely remember Liesl’s character. But I’m certainly familiar with fictional role models. I never put much thought into them when I was younger, choosing my role models for somewhat superficial reasons. Matilda was a popular one, just because she was smart and had ‘superpowers’. I still love characters that much. Sarah Jane Smith (Doctor Who – 70s, though I wasn’t alive for the original airings) is by far my favorite. Funny, strong, feminist and great development over the years.

I also used to want to be Virginia, from the Tenth Kingdom when I was younger. I re-watched the movie two years back and realized I still wanted the same thing, though not as much.

I wish I had kept the same role model through the years, like you have. It would be interesting to link something/someone to an earlier part of my life.

I don’t know if I dare to say this… but I’ve never seen The Sound of Music. It’s not that I don’t want to, it seems like a great film, but I just never had an opportunity. I really should try to see it… it is kinda general knowledge, isn’t it? :P

I love Leisl, she’s my favourite character in the Sound of Music, and I love her for exactly the same reasons as you do! She was one of my idols when I was 10 years old.

This is so awesome. I absolutely ADORE the Sound of Music and I’ve always wanted to be a part of it, too. There was a time in my life where I wanted to be Leisl, as well. It’s so cool to see that someone else shares that dream.
