Dear Birds Chirping Outside My Window
April 4th, 2010 | Categories: Life | 11 CommentsDear Birds Chirping Outside My Window,
I am happy spring has finally sprung. I love that the skies are an endless blue with a bright burning yellow sun, I love that I can wear skirts and flip flops, I love that (if I had the free time) I could lay outside all day and soak up the sun. I love the flowers blooming all over campus, I love the arrival of the cherry blossoms, I love the elated happiness I get every time I realize winter is finally over and spring is here.
I know that you birds like spring, too. After all, spring means you guys can emerge from torpor and go about your daily lives, often starting little birdie families. All the more power to you for enjoying spring to the fullest, really. But do you really have to chirp at each other incessantly from 1am to 4am right outside my window?
I tried closing my window last night to give you guys some privacy, but your chips were so loud that a closed window made no difference. I also was trying to get to sleep, since I had spent all day doing homework and wanted to get a good night’s sleep to continue working away the next day (today). That didn’t happen. I did manage to finish my paper for my lit class, but whether or not I managed to write a persuasive argument at 3am fueled by nothing but frustration at your chirping remains to be seen.
How about a compromise? You guys can chirp all you want during the day, and then shut up at night so I can go to sleep. I think that’s fair, right? That way, you can still chirp away but it won’t interfere with my sleeping schedule. I most definitely do not want to go all Zooey Deschanel from Failure to Launch on you1… I think that would be a very unfortunate way to end this saga, don’t you?
- Zooey’s character shot a bird that would not stop chirping outside her window. [↩]

AHAHAHHA! I can so picture you hunting down the birds outside your window like that character in Failure to Launch. I would totally not be surprised if you attacked said birds. :P (Sidenote, but Zooey was the only good part of that movie.)
Aw! I love Spring too. But I do admit that the birdies get quite annoying. They sure seem to get up early. It’s just not fair. LOL. I sleep with earplugs now so I can at least sleep in a little.
Hahaha the birds can definitely get a bit loud, I agree. I do love spring, though!
I thought birds slept at night! Or at least here, they do, and only wake me up at the ungodly hour of 5-6 when the sun comes up in the spring!
hahaha This is so funny it made my dreadful monday. :D
Sorry for laughing off your suffering. Don’t birds sleep at night too? But they do wake up really early… so…
I only like the birds that make the sweet chirps in the morning of summer air where its almost silent, not the obnoxious ones!! I’ll go hunting with you haha
Oh, man, birds can be the most annoying creatures when you’re trying to get some sleep. We had woodpeckers a couple of weeks ago – those things are really loud! Sometimes, the hunting thing doesn’t seem so out of the question when it’s the wee hours of the morning and you’re pressing a pillow against your head to try and block out the sound of their chirping.
Haha:P I get like that as well. I love the spring, but I wouldn’t mind being without the bird chirping at times:P Hope the paper for lit class goes well though:)
I have to say the birds calling in the morning of spring days is one of my favourite times of the year, but 1am? That’s very early! Winter was obviously far too long in their opinion.
Well, as it was the winter of the Snowpocalypse (x2), I can’t really blame the birds for thinking winter was too long… :P
I am having the same exact problem with an annoying mockingbird who chirps loudly, morning, noon and night. You can hear it outside, you can hear it inside, with the doors closed and windows down. I agree that birds chirping is “normally” a pretty sound. However, not when it comes from one of these mockingbirds. I’m trying to figure out a way to make that bird go elsewhere!
