Gotta Catch ‘Em All

This is what I re-discovered yesterday.

Yes, that is a red Gameboy Color. (Excuse the poor quality of the photo. The lighting where I am is bad and I am too lazy to do anything about that.) It is approximately 10 or 11 years old and is surprisingly in great working condition. My game of choice? Pokemon, of course! Part of my re-discovery when it comes to my Gameboy is a few of my Pokemon game cartridges. Currently I’m playing Silver and realizing two things: first, I have completely and totally managed to forget everything I once knew about the details of the game; second, it is just as fun as I remember it to be.

I know that they re-released Silver as SoulSilver for the Nintendo DS, but unfortunately I can’t justify the cost for a DS or any DS games. It’s just as well, really. Since I’ve been playing Pokemon on my Gameboy, I feel like I’m about 10 years old again. (Having said that, my 10 year old self would be appalled at how much I’ve forgotten about Pokemon in general.) Playing Pokemon has been like talking a walk down memory lane, which is pretty awesome!

My Gameboy, as well as a book and my iPod, will be keeping me entertained while I wait in the hospital today as my mom undergoes surgery. The surgery is meant to be fairly routine and low-risk, but I’d appreciate it if you guys kept her in your thoughts today. Thanks <3

I will admit that I bought my DS just so I could play SoulSilver. :S I used to play Pokemon at my cottage on my best friend’s GBA (back when they were actually the cool new thing), and I just had a craving for it. So… I spent over $200 on the DS, the game, and the warranty. I don’t regret it at all.

I will definitely be thinking of your mom – hope everything goes well <3

If I could get a cheaply priced DS Lite, I’d consider getting it for SoulSilver (and Cooking Mama :P). It’s the lack of backlight in a Gameboy Color that’s doing my eyes in (God, thinking about electronics without backlights makes me feel old!). I just really can’t justify splurging for a DSi because I’ll have a lot more larger and more important expenses coming up this year!

I never understood the appeal of Pokemon. :p And I’ve never owned a Gameboy, or a DS, or any video game system, and I have no issue with that!

Will keep your mom in my thoughts <3

I do believe Pokemon was what got me wanting a gameboy in the first place, that game is just too addicting! I recently played HeartGold, and ah, what good old memories it brings back :D
Best of luck to your mom on her surgery!

Hope all goes well with your mom!

I found my old Game Boy when I was last home and got so excited because I had this Yoshi game I used to love (I don’t even know what it was really.) But when I tried to play it, I didn’t get it and I wasn’t as awesome as I used to be so I gave up. But I’m sure if I’d spent a second more with it, I would have been totally hooked again. Enjoy Pokemon!

I love Pokemon games! I don’t know how they’re so addictive — I guess it’s fun catching new Pokemon and having them evolve and pwning everyone? I play the ROMs these days, although I haven’t played any of the Generation V games. The number of Pokemon and abilities has gotten out of hand now. There are just too many, and there are so many that are copies of each other now!

But still, I’ve been playing Pokemon for over ten years now, and I love it as much as ever <3

Good luck to your mum, and I hope the surgery goes well. She'll be in my thoughts.

Oh man, I remember when the first Pokemon games came out. I was in grade 5. And I saved my money for maybe a year so I could buy myself a GameBoy and Pokemon Blue. And I was attached at the hip to that game. Good old, Pokemon. My childhood would not have been the same without you. :P

This is super belated now, but I hope your mom’s surgery went well!
