Just a Minute (July 2010)

July 31st, 2010 | Categories: Life | 11 Comments

On the last day of every month, I take Just a Minute to reflect on what I’m currently up to.

Celebrating… that my dentist gave my teeth a clean bill of health. No cavities for me!

Listening… to my latest musical discovery, The Script. So good!

Eagerly… anticipating whether or not Amazon will release a new graphite version of the smaller Kindle in August, according to rumors. If there is a new model released, it will go a long way in helping me with my e-reader decision.

Implementing… a comments policy on this blog. It’s pretty standard stuff, and nothing that I didn’t go by before – valid name/email combination, no spam, etc. The only difference is that now it is all in writing. Still, it’s worth mentioning in the name of transparency and all that.

Reading… Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I want to see the movie when it comes out in two weeks, and I have a rule that if a movie is based on a book, I must read the book first.

Eating… lots of German food, like spätzle and maultaschen. Yum!

Playing… Pokemon SoulSilver on my DS. It is a great way to kill time in transit.

Loving… Europe!! It is truly a magical, wonderful, amazing place.

I’m actually the opposite; I like watching the movie before the book because the book is usually better and I like to save the best for last :P

It depends on whether the book is good or not. If I read a book and it is really good, I will only watch the movie if someone who has the same taste as me has already seen and ok’ed the movie. I read Eat Pray Love and I cannot wait for the movie!!!

I do the same with reading the book before watching the movie. I finally read Revolutionary Road this summer and then watched the film. Surprisingly, I liked the book a lot more. I’m planning to read Eat, Pray, Love for the same reason!

    How is eat pray love?

I saw the preview for the movie and I was thinking that the book might be fun to read but I don’t want to buy it if it’s lame… and I couldn’t find it in the library!

I’ve only finished the “eat” section of the book so I can’t say how the book is as a whole, but so far it’s all right. I might like it more as I get further, but so far I am not the biggest fan of her writing style/personal voice. I’ll get back to you when I’m done with the book!

Eat, pray, love is on my list of books to read. I have a similar rule for movies, so I probably won’t end up seeing it.

Glad to hear you’re having a good time in Europe! Where exactly are you at the moment?

    • Manda says:

I am based in Germany for my trip but a lot of my itinerary includes going to nearby countries for some sightseeing. Tomorrow, for instance, I am departing for Prague!

  6. Jenny says:

Haha, I know that feeling of going to the dentist and finding out to your delight that you have no cavities :D My dentist gave my teeth a clean bill of health this time too!

  7. Regina says:

I just got back from Europe and tried Schnitzel for my first time! It was great but my stomach protested later on. Where are you right now? Also, I discovered the Script in about May, and they are amazing!

    • Manda says:

I am staying in southern Germanz but I am spending much of my time going from city to city, country to country (as one does in Europe!) – I just got back from a long weekend in Switzerland and Austria!

  8. Jenni says:

Sounds like you’re having a busy and varied month! I want to start playing Pokemon again, but I feel too old haha.
