I’ll Never Want to Pay for Alcohol Again

Drinks here in Beijing (and the rest of China, I assume) are so cheap I don’t even know how to handle it. A tequila shot, for example, is only 5MB (equivalent of about 80 US cents). And I’m talking about good quality tequila (and every other kind of alcohol), not the cheap stuff broke US college kids buy. How good quality alcohol can be so cheap is beyond me, but I’m definitely not complaining.

I’m sensing some wild nights ahead…

Bars and clubs in the US jack up alcohol prices like crazy, I hate it -__- But damn, 80 cents tequila shots? My liver might seriously die if I lived in China…

Tequila shot for 5RMB? WHERE? Take me there, seriously.

I think it really depends where you go. In general, I do think alcohol is cheaper in China than North America. But the degree to which its cheaper varies. In Shanghai, a drink can cost anywhere from 5 RMB to 50 RMB depending on the level of the club/bar. And in Hong Kong, I had one gin and tonic that cost me 70 HKD (which is about the same as RMB). I was shocked.

I had a mojito in Xintiandi (district in Shanghai) for 70RMB. It was meant to be at the best bar in Xintiandi… but I was less than impressed, especially for that price tag!
