Reporting Live from My Friday Night

It’s 10p.m. on a Friday night. I am a study abroad student in Beijing, China. Ideally, where would I be? Any one of the following would be a good answer to that question:

…in short, any place where I would be able to go out with friends, socialize, drink, and/or dance. Or all of the above.

Instead, what am I doing? I am lying in bed, sick as ever. I seem to have contracted the plague or something, because ever since Monday night I’ve been feeling absolutely awful. Congestion, on/off fever, headaches, and all that yucky stuff. It sucks, because my best friend has also (by pure coincidence) chosen this exact time period to do some traveling for Chinese New Year, leaving me without any caretaker in this cold, dry, windy wintry Beijing weather.

I know, I know. Whine much? I’m just frustrated by the fact that I’ve been sick for the majority of this past week with no sign of getting better. The medicines I got at a local pharmacy have done shit all; I’ve resorted to self-medicating with ibuprofen and Vitamin C. I don’t understand how, even with bed rest, that I’m not feeling the slightest improvement. What gives?

Still, there are worse ways to spend a Friday night than sitting in bed, eating dark chocolate and re-watching Skins (UK version). I could be doing homework, or something equally unappealing after a hard week of studying and test-taking…

Aw, I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling under the weather! Here’s hoping you’ll see some improvement very shortly. (And hope you enjoyed Skins! :D)

Aw, feel better bb. Here are my tips for getting over a cold: get up and raise your body temperature. By which I mean dreadful exercise. Not for long, but enough to be out of breath. So just like, do some jumping jacks or run in place or something for like five minutes. Also, you need protein (yes, chicken is the best option, but eggs or beef or whatever work too) and you need full fruit. Not fruit juice, fruit of flesh. Also, you need hot fluids. Soup and caffeine-free teas. (I get sick a lot and these are the methods that I feel have actually made an impact on the duration of the illnesses.)

Ew, I hope you feel better; being sick sucks. Medicine never really works for me, so I just live off of Ibuprofen and Flonase. :P

I actually started watching Skins…I like it.

I am so excited to be watching the new Skins!

Sorry to hear you aren’t feeling well, sounds like you have flu/chest infection, it sucks but rest lots and try taking something similar to Sudafed if you can find any, ibuprofen will only help if you have aches and pain it probably wont help any flu symptoms.

I don’t want to be pessimistic – but maybe it’s not just a simple viral infection (that simple rest and taking good care of yourself should cure), and perhaps it’s something more bacterial and might require a trip to the doctors for a check up + anti biotics? :s I hope you get well soon though. Being sick is annoying. I’m sick now as well, but not as bad as you are.

Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of. If I don’t feel better by tomorrow morning I’m going to make a trip to the doctor’s. After figuring out the Chinese translation for “sinus infection” or getting the address of the nearest English-speaking hospital, that is.
