Smoker’s Lungs
March 14th, 2011 | Categories: Travel | 5 CommentsIn a city where breathing the polluted air alone is the equivalent of smoking three packs of unfiltered cigarettes a day, I’m pretty surprised I haven’t come down with any lung-related ailments yet.

Beijing, I love you, but fact that I am passively smoking about a zillion packs of cigarettes a week1 has me worried I’ll return to the States with a set of smoker’s lungs!
- The air pollution, combined with the amount of secondhand smoke I inhale when going out at night, is most definitely damaging to my lungs in every possible way. [↩]
Since you’re still young, a few years back in the US should clear your lungs up a bit. I’m told that lungs can clean themselves over time. At least I hope that that’s true.
Eep! I didn’t realize the pollution was that terrible! Quite a comparison… 3 packs of cigarettes.
Might as well take up smoking and get some pleasure out of it all!
JK. But yeah, Stephanie is right, lungs clear themselves up quite nicely once you return to greener pastures.
Yeah, living in a polluted place is no fun. I am not a fan of living in New York for similar reasons. At least I don’t live right in the city.
Equivalent of 3 packs a day?! Holy cow, no wonder they all continue to smoke then… its not like there’s much incentive to quite – no offense!
