Black Pants, I Has Them

September 18th, 2011 by Manda | 7 Comments | Filed in Style

I work in a career advising office and I’m an intern at a prominent non-profit organization. So how is it, exactly, that I’ve managed to live this life without owning a pair of black pants?

I realized this problem when I was getting dressed for work last week. There was a cold snap at the end of the week, which meant I had to trade in my pencil skirt for a pair of pants. While I do have “dress pants” (khakis and a pair of dark brown pinstripes), I don’t have plain, regular black pants. Like, seriously? I’m trained to give conduct a workshop that has a component which talks about appropriate clothing for work and I didn’t have a pair of black pants?

Thank God the business clothing section at H&M is all I can say. I hit it up yesterday and I now have a nice pair of black pants and a fitted black blazer to boot. All I need are a pair of work-appropriate heels (I’m the queen of flats when it comes to work, but I think heels give more of a professional look) and I will actually look the part of my professional roles!

(The fact that I’ve managed to create an entire entry about my lack of black pants shows you just how exciting my life has been lately. Not that I’m not enjoying life at the moment, per se; it’s just that there hasn’t been many eventful things worth sharing on this blog.)

Pierced Ears

June 1st, 2011 by Manda | 3 Comments | Filed in Style

Walked into a tattoo parlor while traipsing around Causeway Bay today and emerged from the parlor with this:

I’ve always wanted second holes in my ears (actually, my ideal is three in my left ear and two in my right). I had second holes for a brief period of one week when I was 18, but I had to take the earrings out due to an infection. That’s why this time around, I went to a tattoo parlor because I knew it would be legit. Last time my ears were pierced I had it done at Claire’s, of all places! No wonder they got infected.

The piercer used a needle instead of a piercing gun, which was a first for me. It actually hurt a lot less, but that can also be attributed to the fact that the guy does piercings and tattoos for a living rather than a casual part-time job, unlike a Claire’s salesgirl. Now I just have to remember to apply the solution to my ears until the holes set.

I haven’t told anyone in my family about my new earrings because I want to see who will notice first. I’ll be seeing all of my extended family at the end of the week and this weekend, so it’ll be interesting to see who is the most observant!

Confession: I’m Addicted to Shoes

May 12th, 2010 by Manda | 7 Comments | Filed in Style

I did a good amount of downsizing my wardrobe when moving out of my dorm last week. Currently I am in the process of downsizing my wardrobe at home so that my closet will contain items that I actually wear on a regular basis. Amidst all of this reorganizing and donating, I have come to one grand conclusion:

I am never allowed to buy shoes ever again. Period.

I always thought my weakness was scarves, and while I do have a lot of them, the amount of scarves I own has nothing on the amount of shoes in my closet. I can’t even bring myself to share the number of pairs I own. The number is too astronomically large even for my own comprehension, especially considering that I’ve only got two feet to wear them on!

Someone please comfort me and say that you have an addiction to a particular wardrobe item or staple, too?
