Classic Black Dress

April 19th, 2010 by Manda | 9 Comments | Filed in Style

Every girl who has any semblance of style knows that a black dress is a staple in a girl’s wardrobe. However, up until this past weekend, I actually did not own any black dresses. I owned dresses in mint green, lemon yellow, white, blue and even black-and-white, but no black. However, thanks to a highly successful (albeit incredibly long) shopping trip with my friend, I came home with the perfect addition to my wardrobe.

It has a U-scoop neck with slight tucks and pleats along the bodice. Additionally, there’s a small tulle underskirt which helps the bottom of the dress “poof” out slightly, which I love. (My prom dress has a white tulle underskirt that peeped out just beneath the hemline of the dress.) There’s also a sash-type thing on both sides of the dress that ties into a bow at the back.

Combined with these heels and a black clutch, both of which I currently own, I am all set for a formal event requiring black-tie attire. Or, you know, a killer night on the town. Whichever comes first.

Dark Brown Suede Flat Boots

Dark Brown Suede Flat Boots

Last weekend, I fulfilled a two-year long dream to find the perfect pair of dark brown suede flat boots at an affordable price.

This dream began in the winter of 2007-2008. I was shopping in the shoes section of Macy’s, and I stumbled across a beautiful pair of dark brown suede flat boots. They were Steve Maddens and the shoe name was Tiana. I fell in love at first sight.

Unfortunately, the shoes were $100USD. There was no way I could justify paying that much for a pair of boots, no matter how much I loved them. So I reluctantly tried to put the thought of them out of my mind and went along my merry way empty-handed without the pair of beautiful boots.

I’ve been searching for that pair of boots, or a similar pair, ever since that winter. I just wanted a pair of dark brown suede flat boots with a slightly slouchy design that went up to just below my knees. I wanted to be able to wear them with straight leg jeans as well as with short skirts, as well as for them to be comfortable and affordable.

This past weekend, I finally found them. They may not be Steve Maddens, but I don’t care what brand it is, or what designer designed the shoe. The boots that I found are everything I wanted, and guess how much they cost?

$25USD.

I think even Amanda would be proud, all things considering1!

  1. I am sure Amanda would have found some way to find an even cheaper pair of boots, but this is a huge success for me, considering I’ve been searching all these years! []

People of Walmart

October 26th, 2009 by Manda | 4 Comments | Filed in Online, Style

I hate Walmart. Like, I hate Walmart with the fiery passion of a thousand burning suns. My hatred for Walmart stems not from the people that shop there, but from the policies Walmart employs with their workers, company policies, and general state of existence. I have only been to a Walmart once in my life as I make it a point never to go in one if I can help it, and the one time I went inside one I felt like a little piece of me had died.

But anyway. As much as I dislike Walmart itself, I will say that there are plenty of very, very… well, interesting people that shop there. People of Walmart catalogs all of the very unusual, outrageous, and just plain weird sightings that occur in and around various Walmarts throughout the country. I’m not even sure what to make of some of these photos, but I will say that I am very wary of entering a Walmart ever again in fear of encountering these people in real life and having no idea how to react to the situation!
